How to use the data acquisition screen

Structure

When you go to the data acquisition screen, you will see a screen shown below. In the upper part of the data acquisition screen, there are links to return to the top page, bookmark, inquiry, and this operation manual. At the toppest, USERID: Registered User ID, Language: Current Language Settings, and Currency Unit: Current Currency appear. The panel of the left-hand side shows a map, which is selected from Google Map or ESRI Map. The map type can be selected in change user information. The selected rectangular region on the map is displayed by different color. You can see latitude and longitude (world grid square code), and the initial size of the rectangular region is set as 600 arc seconds in latitude × 900 arc seconds in logitude. The size of the rectangular region is adjusted from 120 arc seconds in latitude x 180 arc seconds in longitude to 2100 arc seconds in latitude × 3150 arc seconds in longitude. If you click on [Get your current geographic location], you will see permission confirmation to send your location information. If allowed, it will move to an area centered on your current location. if you click on [Search world meshcode] in both Google Maps and ESRI maps, then the data in the currently selected region begins to be retrieved from the database. The retrieved data and the software for data analysis are displayed in the panel of the right-hand side. In addition, to [Search world meshcode] in Google Map, data can be retrieved around a selected landmark. Select an area on the map, choose a type of landmark in categories, and click [Search objects], then the data starts to be retrived. The currently available types of landmarks are Clothing Store, Boutique, Bakery, Liquor Store Fe, Cinema, Internet Cafe, Massage, Supermarket, Convenience Store, Pharmacy, Confectionery Store, Post Office, Bank, ATM, Barber Shop, Hotel, Simple Accommodation, Minshuku, Art Museum, Hot Spring Bath, Park, Taxi Stand, Hospital, Toyle, stone monument, world heritage, special victory, station name, bus stop, school, kindergarten/ daycare center, university, Parking, Police Station, Police Box, Postbox, Public Telephone, Apartments and Mansho, dormitories, city hall, community center, Christian church, Buddhist temple, shrine, Islamic temple, Synagogue, Zoroastrian Temple, Ski Route Station, and Gas Station. If you press [Search objects], selected landmarks appear on the map of the left-hand side. If you click a landmark, then a clickable link in a pop-up window is displayed. if you press a clikable link, then data retrieving around the selected landmark starts. The selected data and the data analysis software are displayed in the panel of the right-hand side.

How to use

After the data retrival is complete, the map of the location focused on is displayed in the panel of the right-hand side. The available functions are listed on the top of the right panel. The available functions are displayed as clikable links. The basic world grid squares statistics and data are always displayed firstly. If you click on [Download the table as a csv file], you can save world grid square statistics data displayed as the table as a csv file. If you click [Open or close the table], then the data table is displayed. You can also upload world grid square statistics and data which you produced by cliking on [Upload a CSV or TSV file]. The analysis function initially displayed is map, which is a fucntion to show a mesh map on the map of the right-hand side. The mesh map displays values of selected grid square statistics and data on the map as a color difference. If you want to see the value in a world grid square for more information, you put an icon on it and a pop-up window appears. In addition to map, you can use standard data analysis functions such as heatmap, scatter, correlation, and bargraph.

When using the map function, if you click on the gray box on the upper right side of the map of the right-hand side, then you can plot selected landmarks as different icons on the map of the right-hand side. In addition, you can partially aggregate the values of some world grid square statistics and data around a selected landmark if you press a landmark icon. You can further calculate the number of identical landmarks that exist in the selection area. This function can be used to measure the surrounding environment and to estimate competitiors in simple demand forecasting.
